CALL FOR STUDENT TECHNICAL POSTERS
Dear SEG Student Member
We are now calling for the submission of Student Technical Posters via an online submission system at http://seg.omnicms.com/seg/2010/collection.cgi. Please visit this site to view instructions for the submission of a short descriptive paragraph, an extended abstract, and your poster. The descriptive paragraph will appear in the printed Conference Program, whereas the poster and abstract will be included on a CD-ROM of Conference Proceedings. All Conference attendees will receive both the CD-ROM and the Conference Program.
We ask that poster submissions be appropriate to the theme of The Challenge of Finding New Mineral Resources that will highlight key commodities in the context of global metallogeny, innovative exploration and new discoveries. Specifically, the conference will focus on six main commodities (gold, silver, copper-moly, zinc, nickel-PGE, and uranium), although other commodities of high current interest may be added.
Each commodity will be subdivided into four topics:- revised metallogenic models
- premier metallogenic belt updates
- current exploration methodologies
- recent major discoveries that have not been reported previously
Poster submissions are invited in these six major commodity areas as well as others, among which iron ore, beach sands, rare earths, phosphate, and potash would be particularly pertinent. If your commodity does not fit in the above list, please contact Thomas Monecke at tmonecke@mines.edu.
The poster session will form a key part of the conference and, together with the International Student Conference, the gathering at Keystone promises to be a seminal event in the field of economic geology.
STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS
All students who submitted abstracts by the March 1, 2010 deadline have recently been notified regarding financial support to attend SEG 2010. We are now in a position to provide travel grants to students who did not meet the March 1 deadline but who still plan to participate in the conference.
To be considered for a student travel grant, please send a one-page letter of application to Thomas Monecke (tmonecke@mines.edu) no later than June 30, 2010. Your letter must address the following:
- Any intention to present a poster noting that submission of an abstract by June 30, 2010 will greatly enhance your chances of receiving a grant – the final deadline for all abstract submissions is August 1, 2010
- How the conference will benefit you in your studies and/or career and also what you believe you will contribute to the meeting that will be of interest/relevance to other attendees
- The anticipated cost of your airfare from your place of residence to Denver, Colorado, USA
Should your application be successful, you will be notified shortly after June 30 and informed regarding the amount of your travel grant. At that time, you must register (US$195 is the student rate) and inform us if you require a formal letter of invitation for the purpose of obtaining a visa to enter the USA. As soon as you can confirm to SEG that you are able to visit the USA (i.e., you have a visa or reside in a visa-waiver country), we will be able to transfer funds to you.
Thank you for your participation in this program – we look forward to hearing from you soon should you wish to avail yourself of this opportunity.
Fundraising has now commenced and the Organizing Committee is proud to announce the following major sponsors:
